National Freedom of Information Coalition’s Grants Management System

Hello, and welcome to NFOIC’s new Grants Management System (GMS).

For details on the types of grants funded and the criteria for those grants, please visit http://www.nfoic.org/grants.

Please note that an incomplete application will not be considered for funding.

Grants Process Summary

You can begin the application process at http://grants.nfoic.org/accounts/register/.

Once you’ve been registered, you can always log in at http://grants.nfoic.org/accounts/login.

You can log in or log out using the appropriate link at the top of every page.

Please do remember to log out after every session.

While the application is pretty straightforward, below please find some further instructions.

Further Instructions for Completing the Application

The first step in the grant application is to provide very basic information in order to Create an Account and submit a request to apply for a grant from NFOIC.

Please provide the required information by completing each field and clicking Sign UP!.

You will receive an email notification that your initial request for authorization has been received.

Following the link in that email will activate your account and allow you to Edit your profile.

Please complete all fields and click Save profile. So doing will forward your profile and allow us to confirm your status as a trusted member of NFOIC eligible for a grant.

For your protection, the confirmation stage is not automated, so please allow a reasonable period of time for us to do so and contact you that you have been so confirmed.

Once you have been confirmed, you will be able to complete the rest of the application process.

Please note: In the application, all fields must be populated. Be sure to click Save at the end of every step.

The next stage of the process allows you to upload the required documents and verify that you have provided all necessary information. You will be allowed to edit your application as you complete it.

There are seven steps involved in completing an application.

Once you submit the application, you will not be allowed to make changes to it. You will have to notify us of your request for a change to be made.

Required documents include the following:

Please note: All Sustainability Grants require matching funds. A scanned document detailing the match must be uploaded when applying for a Sustainability Grant.

Once your application is submitted successfully, NFOIC will send an email that confirms your application was submitted successfully or, if more information is required, a member of the NFOIC staff will contact you using the contact information you previously provided.

The Board’s Decision

A successfully submitted application for funding will be considered by the NFOIC Grants Committee. If a member of the Committee needs further information, she or he will contact you using the contact information provided with your request to apply.

The NFOIC Grants Committee will forward meritorious applications to the NFOIC Board of Directors who will review each application and make a final decision. You will be notified of the Board’s decision at the email address you provide with your request to apply.

An Awarded Grant

If you are awarded a grant from the NFOIC, a fully executed contract must be established between the University of Missouri (MU), the NFOIC, and the grant recipient (you).

You will receive through email a Letter of Award, the Consulting Agreement, and a Report Form.

It is the intent of the NFOIC, the Knight Foundation and the Missouri School of Journalism that any materials, findings, intellectual property or work product resulting from the Project be in the public domain and accessible for use by any other person or organization without charge. NFOIC grant recipients with questions regarding this expectation should contact Denise Meyers at meyersd@missouri.edu, or Ken Bunting at buntingk@missouri.edu or 573.882.3075.

Thank you for applying for a grant from the National Freedom of Information Coalition.
